Sports Afield
Ron’s Take: Sports Afield is one of the oldest outdoorsman’s magazines in the U.S., but it’s no longer the general hunting/fishing/camping SA of the 20th Century. It’s now more upscale and geared to serious adventure hunters who not only prowl the back forty for whitetails, but travel to the far North, to Africa, Asia, Argentina and all corners of the world in search of big game hunting. If you love to dream about really wild adventures, SA is the magazine for you. I write a travel column in which I formerly covered the nitty gritty of traveling. These days I’m detailing specific destinations and the hunting challenges each offers. Other columnists cover rifles, shotguns, custom guns, survival and conservation. Expect high quality writing and photography in Sports Afield. And prepare to start dreaming.
About Sports Afield: Sports Afield is a magazine for serious hunters who like to read about and experience real adventure, especially those who have a passion for hunting big game around the world. The magazine focuses particularly on the most popular destinations for big-game hunters: western North America and Africa. Feature articles cover hunting for species such as trophy elk, bear, bighorn sheep, moose, caribou, African plains game, Cape buffalo, lion, and leopard.
Our primary goal is to inspire hunters with exciting adventure stories about the most desirable game species. In addition, we strive to keep them informed with articles that cover top hunting destinations, the right tools and gear, conservation issues, and the skills they need to successfully pursue a variety of game animals. Coverage of fine guns, optics, clothing, and equipment is an essential part of the magazine.
