Sporting Classics

Ron’s Take: Sporting Classics is unique among outdoor magazines in that it harks back to the golden age when such publications covered everything from bluegill fishing to elephant hunting along with the passion, art and science that went along with it. While it tends to address a higher demographic (some call it the Orvis Tweed set) by detailing $140,000 upland guns, antique African rifles and expensive lodges, it also covers single-shot .22s, backyard whitetail hunting and kids poking around beaver ponds. At its core, SC is about you and me and how we feel about the outdoors, about our special connections with the mud and blood and tears that make up this glorious Earthly pale in which we are alloted a certain number of days in which to suck up the joy. I review rifles and optics and write the Rifles column for SC, along with the occasional hunting adventure story.
