About Zach Hall
Zach spent his teenage years in small-town Alaska where the wilderness was a stone’s throw from the back porch. In order to have more time outdoors, he took up the obscure sport of Nordic skiing because it was tough and provided the opportunity to run, bike, ski, and paddle on the trails and lakes of the Kenai Peninsula—all in preparation for grueling 6-12 mile competitions. Of course, many of the training hours did double duty as scouting runs to find good fishing holes and likely bear and moose habitat.
Zach harvested his first big-game animal during high schoo;—a black bear that squared out at nearly seven feet—and the experience helped deepen his commitment to hunting and conservation. National success as a young skier and a passion for learning landed Zach at Dartmouth College in the White Mountains of New Hampshire where he was a 4-year Varsity athlete, sang in a nationally acclaimed a cappella group, and earned a degree in Psychology & Brain Sciences.
Following graduation in the spring of 2007 he was recruited by the U.S. Biathlon team and moved to the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, NY to train full time with the National Team. He proved to have an aptitude for the shooting aspect of biathlon and quickly began to see national success. His 4-year career as a professional athlete took him all over the world and netted many honors including numerous North American Cup wins and a spot as the Olympic Team alternate for the 2010 games.
Zach retired from competition in the spring of 2011 and moved home to Alaska to get back to his roots where he has been pursuing opportunities in sustainable business development while simultaneously coaching Jr. and master level Nordic racers and biathletes. Years of self-promotion as an athlete have given him a keen interest in marketing and he’s excited to be part of the Ron Spomer Outdoors team.
